Product Description
Mojo is the moment when we do something that's purposeful, powerful, and positive and the rest of the world recognizes it. This book is about that moment--and how we can create it in our lives, maintain it, and recapture it when we need it.

In his follow-up to the New York Times bestseller What Got You Here Won't Get You There, #1 executive coach Marshall Goldsmith shares the ways in which to get--and keep--our Mojo. Our professional and personal Mojo is impacted by four key factors: identity (who do you think you are?), achievement (what have you done lately?), reputation (who do other people think you are--and what have you've done lately?), and acceptance (what can you change--and when do you need to just "let it go"?). Goldsmith outlines the positive actions leaders must take, with their teams or themselves, to initiate winning streaks and keep them coming.

Mojo is: that positive spirit--towards what we are doing--now--that starts from the inside--and radiates to the outside. Mojo is at its peak when we are experiencing both happiness and meaning in what we are doing and communicating this experience to the world around us. The Mojo Toolkit provides fourteen practical tools to help you achieve both happiness and meaning--not only in business, but in life.

4 out of 5 stars Create More Happiness   July 29, 2010
Kevin Eikenberry (Indianapolis, IN USA)

Some call it a hot streak, others, momentum, flow or good karma. Marshall Goldsmith, one of America's top executive coaches calls it mojo, and he has written this book to define it, explore the components of it and help us see why we want it, and how to get it.

In an early chapter in the book Goldsmith shares what he calls the Mojo Paradox. It is:

Our default response in life is not to experience happiness. Our default response in life is not to experience meaning. Our default experience in life is to experience inertia.

From this paradox, he moves forward to help us get past that inertia in thoughtful, conscious ways so we can create more happiness, more meaning and more mojo.

The book then explains the four building blocks of Mojo and how to use them in your life. Those blocks are:

Identity
Achievement
Reputation
Acceptance

Often in this space I will recommend books that have a focus more applicable to some people, based on their professional interests. This is not one of those books. If you are interested in having more happiness and a more meaningful life, this book will help you think about that and give you specific ideas about how to make that happen. And it all comes from one of the best executive coaches on the planet. That makes the few dollars spent a darn good investment!

I've read this on my Kindle (Amazon link to Kindle with my with affiliate code) and wish I hadn't - not because I didn't want to read it, but because this is one of those books I would have taken a few notes in the margins and highlighted some sections. This book challenged me to think and reflect and will help me both professionally and personally to get - and keep - my mojo.

It is hard to beat that!

5 out of 5 stars Mojo - Marshall Goldsmith (Hyperion)   July 26, 2010

Marshall Goldsmith pulls no punches. He wants to help you get back on track - get your `mojo' back as he puts it, but he wont tolerate self-delusion along the way. This much is clear in "Mojo: How to Get it, How to Keep It, How to Get it Back if You Lose It."

Goldsmith, (author of last year's bestseller, "What Got You Here Won't Get You There") lays out a prescription for identifying what makes you tick, how you are different and what you have to offer, and then how to shape and maximize those skills to cut through life like a proverbial hot butter knife. In this short (200 pages), but powerful book, Dr. Goldsmith (who as an executive coach, advises top Fortune 500 companies regularly) quickly identifies habits and traits that hold people back (the `Nojo') and how to quickly subvert them and get back on the path to success.

This easy read is anchored by a writing style that makes its points clearly through a number of streamlined examples that most readers should have no problem understanding. The linchpins of Goldsmith's focus are identity, achievement, reputation and acceptance and the concepts are reinforced by dedicated chapters, questionaries, graphics and work sheets that far from belaboring the point, rather serve to explain and reinforce the overriding concept; are you receiving short-term gain and maximizing your long term goals through your actions, both large and small. This is the essence of the book.

It's easy to see why Goldsmith is a best-seller in the field. His books are on target and get to the root of the matter - albeit sometimes counter-intuitively - using both the broad and specific strokes required for the reader to get back on track. His laser focus on what works vs. what we think will work is exactly what makes his work stand out in a crowded field.

5 out of 5 stars Good read, great book, terrific summer recharger.   July 14, 2010

Thank you MaryEllen for recommending this author. Famous as the coaches coach, Goldsmith certainly deserves the title. I found this little book to be chock full of extremely useful immediately applicable insights. His writing style is simple, concise and direct - yet he comes across as just so Da,,,mn useful. For me the lighthouse point was his comment that there really is no use for you in getting upset at people being who they are. They can not help it. Once you realize this you can forgive them for being who they are. And move on to change what you can. Good read, great book, terrific summer recharger. 5 out of 5 stars Find Your Mojo!   July 13, 2010

'Mojo: How to Get It, How to Keep It, How to Get It Back if You Lose It' is a book that you should place at the very top of your reading list. The author, Marshall Goldsmith, has written almost 30 books dealing in his field of expertise, executive coaching. Mojo is the latest and well worth a read.

I was attracted to this book because my clients are always complimenting me on my "loving what I do and showing it" spirit. They find this state of mind to be incredibly contagious and are encouraged (and encourage each other) to strive to achieve the impossible.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book for many reasons. First, Goldsmith does a great job of defining what Mojo is, and what it is not, or Nojo. Then, he completely explores the four key elements that you need to achieve great Mojo. Next, he supports his ideas with real-life stories and examples of Mojo and Nojo. Finally, he offers practical next-steps with take-away tools that can be used by the reader immediately.

I have recommended this book to all of the senior/c-level leaders that I am coaching. I have also created a presentation titled "In the Zone" surrounding the book. I have given this presentation, pro bono, to job seekers in my area in hopes that the lessons I have learned from the book will assist them in their current endeavors. I have also tied concepts from Mojo into TechEdge's flagship workshop, "Collaboration in Action". Optimizing your people potential is the focus of this workshop, and the themes from the book play directly into this idea.
